About CalcDeck

We built CalcDeck because we were tired of every financial calculator secretly trying to sell us something.

You know the experience: you search "mortgage calculator," find one on a big finance site, enter your numbers, and — surprise! — there's a "Get Pre-Approved" button, a lender referral, or results that subtly push you toward refinancing through their affiliate partners.

We think you deserve better. You deserve a calculator that just gives you the numbers.

Our Story

CalcDeck started in late 2025 when two friends — a software engineer and a former financial analyst — kept having the same frustrating conversation. Every time one of us needed to run numbers on a mortgage, student loan, or investment scenario, we'd land on a calculator that seemed helpful until we noticed the "partner offers" baked into every result.

After the fifth time a "mortgage calculator" tried to funnel us into a lead form, we decided to build something better. No boardroom, no venture capital, no marketing department telling us to hide the formula. Just two people who believe that personal finance math isn't proprietary — it's public knowledge, and you shouldn't need to hand over your contact information to access it.

We work on CalcDeck nights and weekends because we genuinely enjoy making complex financial math approachable. We're not a giant company, and that's the point — we don't have anyone to answer to except our users.

Our Data & Methodology

Every calculator on CalcDeck uses well-established financial formulas that are publicly documented. We display the exact formula on each calculator page so you can verify the math yourself — pull out a spreadsheet and you should get the same numbers.

Where applicable, we supplement calculations with publicly available data: property tax rates from state revenue departments, average mortgage rates from Freddie Mac's Primary Mortgage Market Survey, and inflation assumptions based on historical CPI data. We update reference rates at least quarterly, and we monitor for material changes (like a Fed rate shift) to ensure timely updates.

Our default values represent reasonable assumptions — for example, 7% annual return for retirement projections reflects long-term, inflation-adjusted stock market averages. But every default is adjustable because your situation is unique. We never lock you into our assumptions.

What Makes CalcDeck Different

  • No affiliate bias, unlike Bankrate & NerdWallet: Major comparison sites earn commissions when you click through to lenders or open accounts. Their calculators are marketing funnels. Ours are just calculators. The difference shows in the numbers — we don't pre-select "preferred" lenders or inflate savings projections to make products look attractive.
  • Open formulas, not black boxes: We publish the formula behind every calculator directly on the page. Try finding the mortgage formula on a bank's website — you won't. We think you have a right to know how your numbers are computed.
  • No lead generation: We don't ask for your email, phone number, or any personal information. You won't get a follow-up call from a "trusted lending partner" because we don't have any. The only data we collect is anonymous page analytics.
  • Embeddable widgets: Most calculator sites guard their tools behind ad walls and terms of service. We offer free embeddable widgets that you can add to your own website, blog, or resource page — with a small attribution link that helps more people find honest calculators.

Our Principles

  • No affiliate bias: We don't earn commissions from lenders, banks, or financial products. Our results aren't tilted toward any company.
  • Transparent formulas: Every calculator shows you exactly what formula it uses. No black boxes.
  • No lead generation: We don't sell your data to mortgage brokers, insurance agents, or anyone else.
  • Open and free: Every calculator is free to use and free to embed on your website.

How We Make Money

We display unobtrusive display advertising (Google AdSense and similar networks). That's it. We don't take money from lenders, we don't have affiliate links, and we don't sell user data. Ads are clearly marked and don't influence our calculations.

For Bloggers & Webmasters

We offer free embeddable calculator widgets — add our mortgage calculator (or any other) to your site with one line of code. A small "Powered by CalcDeck" link appears in the widget. Learn more about embedding.
